A quick, screenshot-friendly guide to uploading a 3D model to a Shopify product, enabling spin/zoom/AR, and troubleshooting common issues.

Why add 3D to your product page?
3D models let shoppers spin, zoom, and inspect your product, building trust and lifting conversions. On Shopify, adding a 3D file is as easy as uploading a photo (and most modern themes support it out of the box).
Works best with lightweight web formats like GLB/GLTF (Android/web) and USDZ (Apple Quick Look/AR). Keep file sizes lean for fast loading.
What you’ll need
- Your product already created in Shopify → Products
- A 3D model file (GLB/GLTF and/or USDZ) exported for the web
- A theme that supports media on product pages (e.g., Dawn or any OS 2.0 theme)
Step-by-Step: Upload a 3D Model in Shopify
1) Open the product
- Shopify Admin → Products
- Click the product you want to update
2) Find the Media area
- Scroll to the Media section (where images and videos live)
3) Upload your 3D file
- Click Add (or drag-and-drop) and select your .glb / .gltf / .usdz file
- Shopify will process the file (you’ll see a short “Processing” state)
4) Reorder & save
- Optional: drag the 3D model to the first or second position so it’s easy for shoppers to find
- Click Save
That’s it, your 3D model appears in the gallery on the product page. Shoppers can tap to spin, zoom, and (on supported devices) view the product in AR.
Optional: Make it feel premium
- Add both formats: GLB (web/Android) + USDZ (AR on iOS)
- Name your files clearly: brand-product-color.glb (helps your team later)
- Keep it light: optimize materials and polygon count for web performance
- Use a clean poster image: the first thumbnail shoppers see should be crisp & on-brand
Quick QA checklist
- Does the model match color/finish (matte vs gloss)?
- Are proportions accurate to real dimensions?
- Does it load fast on mobile (Wi-Fi + 4G test)?
- If you added AR (USDZ), does “View in your space” work on iOS?
Troubleshooting
The 3D model doesn’t show on my live store
- Make sure your theme supports product media (Online Store 2.0 themes like Dawn do)
- In the product template, ensure the product media block is present
- Some apps or custom code can hide media—test on an unmodified theme if needed
The file is too large / loads slowly
- Reduce texture sizes, compress images, simplify overly dense geometry
- Remove unused materials and hidden mesh parts
- Export specifically for web (many 3D tools have “web/GLB” presets)
AR doesn’t appear on iPhone
- You’ll need a USDZ file for Apple Quick Look
- Test on a recent iOS device in Safari
